Why Linux with Centos?
CentOS is a full featured Linux distribution and is excellent for customers that have experience in using Command Line Interfaces as it does not come with windows or icons to help guide you. For those wanting the many benefits of using an open source operating system, with hundreds of thousands freely available open source, free products, but are not experienced in using Linux, we recommend the excellent additional option of the Plesk Control Panel.
Why Windows 2008?
Windows is a more familiar interface for more general computer users. There are many applications available on the internet for you to use, but many of these are not free. Windows generally supports the same products as CentOS and would typically be simpler to get accustomed to. It is important to note that just because you use windows, or built your website on a computer using windows does not necessarily mean you need windows to run your website.
This solution would be best suited to:
  1. Someone with experience managing a webserver.
    - or -
  2. Someone requiring the Plesk control panel
  1. Someone who requires the ASP.net programming language

  2. MSSQL database

VPS FAQ
  1. What is a VPS?
VPS stands for a Virtual Private Server. A virtual private server is a method of partitioning a physical server computer into multiple servers such that each has the appearance and capabilities of running on its own dedicated machine. Each virtual server can run its own full-fledged operating system, and each server can be independently rebooted.

  2. Why choose a VPS instead of Shared Hosting?
A VPS, offers significant advantaged over Shared Hosting. The main ones are, scalability as you can upgrade your Hard Drive and Memory as you require, and customisation in that you can customise your VPS in the same way that you can with a Dedicated Server. Because resources are not shared, hosted applications or websites are much more faster as well as more secured.

  3. What can I do with a VPS?
You can host any services you like from your VPS, including web hosting and email accounts; install entry databases running on MySQL or MS SQL Web Edition or your own software. You will have root access to your VPS so there's no limit to what you can run, as long as it doesn't violate our terms of service.

  4. What support do I get with my VPS?
Telephone and eMail support are available for all your technical and service support enquiries.

  5. What is the difference between cloud and virtualisation?
A "Cloud" is usually used as a reference for a platform of services and applications, that are scalable and can be made specific to a customer, and are accessed via the internet, which are hosted, maintained by a third party provider. Whereas "Virtualisation" is the process of creating virtual units, through the use of a virtualisation technology, from a simple or multiple pieces of hardware. Virtualisation can be applied to various areas of IT infrastructure, such as virtual: firewalls, networks, servers and storage.
